Rummage Sale And Memories Of Marilyn Monroe (Issue 109)

Over the years, I seem to have built up a collection of everything from A to Zizzard, so decided to have a rummage sale. The amount of work it takes to pull things out from under the bed, the attic, back porch storage, in addition to a separate storage building I have out back complete with stacked up boxes, is a lot of work. You have to sort through everything, organize and price things, plus, make signs to advertise the sale, create a flyer, write a newspaper ad, and on and on.

It’s no wonder I procrastinated having a sale for so long.

Clewiston, Florida Everglades (Issue 108)

Clewiston, Florida is a pretty little town halfway between West Palm Beach and Fort Myers. On the north side, it is bordered by Lake Okeechobee, the largest inland natural lake in the United States. On the southern side are the vast Everglades.

I lived in Clewiston for about four years in the late forties. As I recall, it was a town that was originally laid out by an architect. The major industry there was the United States Sugar Corporation. Hundreds of acres of sugar cane were grown in the rich land in surrounding areas. When it came time to harvest the cane, the foliage on the stalks was set on fire to burn through acres at a time. The fire stripped off the foliage and the clean stalks were ready for harvest, to be sent to the local sugar refinery. It was a spectacular sight to see those large fields ablaze at night.

Mule Camp Market, A Fall Festival (Issue 107)

Here in a small North Georgia town of Gainesville, a fall festival is held each year called “Mule Camp Market.” More than 200 booths line up around the town square, a very nice town square with lots of local shops. In the center is a beautiful park area.

Is Majority Rule Moral? (Issue 106)

We are rapidly approaching Election Day, a time when another president will be elected to hold that office for four years. Along with the election, there are a number of other political candidates seeking an office of a seat of power.

So much is happening on a daily basis it’s hard to keep up with all of it. There is trouble in the housing market, high food prices, job losses, investments tanking, government taking over more and more, taxes eating into every phase of our lives and politicians barking promises they can’t keep. It seems we have more problems in this country than Dick Tracy.
