Voting Via The Bean Method (Issue 105)

Back in Ancient Greece, there was a group of philosophers called Stoics, commonly referred to as the front porch philosophers. They would gather on someone’s front porch and discuss many topics–attitudes, beliefs, human behavior, politics—plus other subjects relating to the happenings of that time. Many of the subjects they discussed are similar to the issues Americans face in today’s world.

Back in that time, there was a lot of discussion about political issues and voting in particular. The Greeks adopted a particular method of voting. Balloting back in those times was accomplished by dropping various colored beans into a receptacle. The Stoics motto was “Abstain from Beans.”

Acorn Politicians Gone Nuts (Issue 104)

I listened to the second debate between presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama. In previous articles, I have mentioned how boring all the rhetoric is. This one went beyond that.

They babbled on and on ad nausea. Both went from the ridiculous to the sublime in stretching the truth, made promises they have no intention of keeping, waltzed around the podium fencing with the audience questions, fumbling and avoiding answering the questions asked. The moderator, Tom Brokaw, gave the worst performance I have heard from any moderator in any former debates.

The compulsory school laws force parents to send their children to school. If you don’t, you face arrest. I know about this personally because I faced arrest back in the seventies for this reason.

Create Your Own Job, Part 2 (Issue 102)

Ideas on creating a job

Yesterday I heard on the news that eight percent of jobs in this country were related to the housing industry. With the housing market in a dire financial situation, I know many are out of work. However, do not be despondent, put on your thinking cap and figure out a way to create your own job and make a living.
