HAS THE SOUTH REALLY “GONE WITH THE WIND?” (Issue 680)

I missed being around during the Civil War, but like millions around the globe, I felt like I was there during that era, watching the epic film, Gone With The Wind. A depiction of life in the South, during the 18oos.

I grew up in the South, where many of those traditions of the 1800s were carried over into the first half of the nineteenth century. I grew up on a farm in Northeast Georgia, and the first fifteen years of my life lived in a house built by my great-grandfather, who fought in the Civil War. Over the kitchen door of the house, hung a Civil War musket, belonging to him.

AYN RAND TELLS IT LIKE IT IS, LIKE NO ONE ELSE (Issue 679)

If you are one of my readers from my earlier blog articles, then you know Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand had a profound impact on my journey to understand freedom, which began back in the fifties.

Here’s a quote from Atlas Shrugged: “Do you think that we want those laws to be observed? We want them broken. There’s no way to rule innocent men. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking the law.”

SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN IN SCHOOLS – PENN STATE SCANDAL (Issue 678)

I have a number of articles posted relating to my experiences with problems in the public school system, going back to the sixties and seventies, which resulted in my decision to home-school when it was almost unheard of. I tell the story of how I dealt with the threatened arrest for non-compliance with the compulsory school laws.

I actually raised two families, because I had grown children when at age 40 I had another child. Aside from my own children, I have helped raise other children. And even today as an Octo, frequently keep my grandchildren. Consequently I’ve had a great deal of experience with children, based on longevity and being a part of more than one generation of school children.

ELECTION CYCLE OF 2012 – THE DANCE and THE GAME of POLITICS (Issue 677)

It’s difficult to fathom we still have almost a year to go in this 2012 election year cycle. I feel like saying, like MacBeth, “Out damned spot,” but there’s no getting around it, we are stuck in one news cycle after another, talking about one candidate or another. I’ve decided to ride the tide out, and keep writing about politics and politicians, and cycle off from time to time listening to music.
