Are We Living in a Fool’s Paradise? Socialism, the Antithesis of Private Property Ownership (Issue 209)

I was living in the little town of Norcross several years ago, when a young man knocked on my door and announced he was running for Mayor. I said, I don’t vote, he said yes I know but I want your support.

I was eating a piece of chicken when I answered the door, but invited him in and wasted no time, asking him what he planned on doing as Mayor. He replied by saying, “You know government is a process.” I replied “No, I didn’t know that I thought it was a gun in my back.”  We had a short amenable visit and he left.

But his notion that Government is a process is an interesting one. I have come to believe he was more accurate than I gave him credit at the time. During the years since, I have observed this “process” for a time it appeared to be a false trade off of Individual freedom for security.

Political government has expanded its powers and tentacles, to a point individual freedom seems almost extinct, but was it traded for false security? This country appears to be more vulnerable than ever from enemies’ without and enemies from within.

We are living in an information age, where there’s instant news regarding most everything going on, and yet the general population seem to be  un-informed about all that is actually taking place as we march at such a rapid pace down the road to total socialism.

How does the average person relate freedom to their everyday lives? What are their concerns about private property ownership, justice, and the future of their children in the government schools? There is so much to be concerned about; nothing seems to matter that much now a days.

A few weeks ago there seemed to be doom and gloom, over loss of jobs, business failures, and home foreclosures. Now it seems a silver bullet is coming out of Washington which has calmed everything down.  A little up-turn in the stock market, Stimulus money in the pockets of some, warm weather here reducing energy cost, appears to have convinced many the steam roller towards total socialism has slowed down.

The direction this country is headed has not changed. That young candidate running for mayor of a small town had it right. Government is a process. The process is towards Globalization and Socialism.  And in the process, individual Freedom and private ownership of property is destroyed. Inherent in this process is a strategy of one step backwards and two steps forward. Socialism is the antithesis of private ownership of property has already made tremendous inroads into our way of life in this country.

Obviously there are many who want the paternalism of political government. Despite the fact there’s still many who stand for freedom and private property ownership, the majority have abandoned that self-responsibility and self-control. And have adopted the notion, they want a centralized government to do for them what they are unwilling to do for themselves.

We are now living in the inverted pyramid. A pyramid which, at one time, stood for political government at the small tip at the top and the broad base representing the power of the people. Now it’s inverted teetering on its tip. With the imbalance of the power of the people at the top, with the tip quivering at the base. Will it topple or can it be reversed to return the power back to the people?

The saddest words of tongue or pen are these few words, “It might have been.”

I fear that this false “recovery” is just putting off the inevitable, and will make it much worse when it does come. We shall see.
