BEWARE OF GREEKS BEARING GIFTS – VOTING WITH BEANS – STOICS – SOCRATES – PLATO – ARISTOTLE (Issue 428)

PART TWO

In part one I mentioned the Trojan horse story, how the stoics voted with beans, and the great philosophers, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

Most everyone is familiar with the motto of Socrates, “Know Thyself.” In other articles I remind the reader that all great military strategists seem to agree on one thing, i.e., “Know thyself and know thine enemy.” Which has particular meaning at this time because we are in a war – a war of ideas, and what’s at stake is our Freedom. It’s a battle, because of all the forces at work to destroy freedom as a way of life and replace it with the bondage of socialism. Therefore it’s imperative that we as individuals know two things, ourselves and the enemy.

The question is, What do you want? What do you believe? What’s important to you? What do you know and understand about all that is taking place currently in this country? What legacy are you leaving for your children? What are you willing to stand for, stand up for, and stand out for? We have passed the time of fence-sitting.

We are bombarded with so much information coming from many directions by different people, frequently saying one thing one day and something different the next. Therefore how do we sort through and make decisions.

For myself, I have several ways of doing that. My simple philosophy of life is this: No one is important enough to me to lie to, and I’ve never been hungry enough to steal. Nothing complicated about that. Accordingly, when I read something, or listen to a person talking about ideas, no matter what the subject, I just automatically listen to hear if it in any way, shape, form or fashion involves thievery. That is taking without the consent of the owner, via taxes or any other method. It is my core belief that thievery is wrong and I know of no justification for it on any level under any conditions.

Consequently, I mention a couple things one can use as a guideline basis for determining decisions. That is, if you happen to be one of those still wondering and wavering about which direction to go, who or what to believe, or what to do about any given situation.

Truth is that which is, and the absence of a lie, and always has a strange ring.

Since we are coming up on a midterm election, many will have numerous decisions to make. Do I vote or not vote? Should I vote for candidate A or candidate B. What about promises being made, do I believe them or not? Can this person act in my best interest, or will he act in his best interest? What can you trust the candidate to do or not to do? Why do I need another person to represent me? Can any other person represent Me? How can one represent me and my neighbor at the same time because my neighbor and I have different needs, wants, desires, aims, taste, ideas and etc.?

Voting is choosing. In the market place choosing is what we do every day of our lives. You can choose brand X or brand Y, by voting for a preference of one over the other. Nothing wrong with this kind of choosing, (voting), it’s who we are and what we do.
However in the framework of politics there’s a major change, with reference to voting. We vote for a politician to have power over our lives, to take property and a laundry list of taking powers over our lives, and not only that – we use voting to place politicians over the lives of others to take from them. Our friends, our family, our neighbors and those we’ve never met.

Implicit in voting is coercion and control. And Control is a monoply in the hands of political government, i.e., the State. Inasmuch as the politicians make decisions affecting every phase of our lives, the self-responsibility and self-control of Freedom is impeded and taken out of the hands of the individual. Voting removes individual responsibility relative to many areas of our lives.

Majority decision takes on the personna of Divine Decree. And concepts of the politician take on an aura of Divine intervention. The political process of voting, is nothing less than disguised coercion, and once installed, stripped of its pretense, it’s simply a method, in a devious way, of coercion by using violence, if necessary for compliance.

Ours has become a nation of the majority addicted to voting. Centralized control replaces individual control of lives and property.

I recall the time in Germany towards the end of the era of Hitler. He rounded up the citizenry with armed guards in tanks and trucks, and forced the people to the polls to vote for him.

The moral position one is to take, is to refrain from coercion of fellow man. In this connection, at this time of crisis in this country, it is incumbent to stop and think about any actions of coercion, if you value your Right to Life, Liberty and Property. Because legal power to coerce others is acquired via voting.

During the era of the Greek front-porch Philosophers, the Stoics voted by dropping beans in a receptacle, now-a-days it is done via the secrecy of stepping into a voting booth.

Now is a crucial time in this once great Nation as we march on towards the end of the first ten years of this twenty-first century. Our actions now will determine the kind of country we will be living in the next ten years, and the future of our children and grandchildren. A time of serious reflection before making life-changing decisions. A time for rational thought. A time to stop and think before making decisions, and consider the consequences of our decisions before we act, one way or the other.
