The World Loves A Winner And A Parade (Issue 119)

The Presidential Race is over. Twenty-one months of around the clock political news domination has ended. There were days, my friends, I thought it would never end.

The entire world loves two things and two things only, and that’s a winner and a parade. I stayed up last night and listened to the results until I heard that it looked like Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio were going for Obama. I thought to myself, I might as well go to bed and wake up to a new African American President-Elect.  Sure enough, I woke up at 3 a.m., turned on the TV and the first thing I heard was mention of Barack Obama as the President-Elect, then news of more than 100,000 people in Grant Park, Illinois, to hear his speech.

Barack Obama can definitely draw a crowd and make an eloquent speech. He most certainly generated a lot of enthusiasm over his campaign and inspired a lot of hope in a generation of Americans. Now the question is, what is he going to deliver?

Redistribution Of Wealth By Restaurant Customer (Issue 117)

In my eight decades of listening to many political campaigns, I have never heard anything as nasty and vicious as this one. It seem as though all of a sudden the anger and frustration of the citizens in this country with reference to what is happening to our beloved country and personal Freedom, is at an all time high.

It seems to me all the talk about “redistribution of wealth” struck a nerve like nothing else has. A friend of mine out of state sent me a story he read about how one lady who was going for lunch in a restaurant decided to embark on an unscientific experiment of “wealth redistribution.” It’s a classic story and an interesting one.

Hatfield & Mccoy’s Mud-Slinging Politics (Issue 114)

Down the stretch, just a few days before the presidential  election, every day seems to reach a new level of mud-slinging, name calling, finger pointing, story telling, digger O’Dell politics. Every one, every thing and every place has been labeled and relabeled.

There are red states and blue states, battleground states and toss-up states. There are registered and non-registered voters, liberals and conservatives, religious right and religious left, blue collar and white collar voters, and non-committed and undecided voters. The labeling goes on and on infinitum.

Food Prices, Voting Fraud, Stupid Remarks And Dumb Looks (Issue 111)

So much is happening lately the news is like a runaway horse in a frenzy.

As far as yours truly, I’m trying to keep up with the rising grocery costs. I went to the grocery store last week and one three-pound rib roast was priced $40.01. We all know how tasty a rib roast is but we also know it has a large bone and a lot of fat in it. I dare say that three-pound roast did not have more than two pounds of lean, edible meat in it. I called the butcher out to make sure he had not made a mistake in pricing. He assured me he had not. So I picked up a much cheaper cut of meat, marinated it overnight, but it was still too tough to chew.

I have changed my buying habits somewhat.
