Past Presidents, Present President-Elect & Why McCain Lost (Issue 123)

Here we are in the middle of all of this magnificent fall weather. Never have I seen the trees and foliage more beautiful. It’s as though some unseen hand has taken a broad brush and painted the entire area like a canvas, with such a variety of colors and beauty.

In this post-election time, I de-brief myself by playing with Prince William in the back yard, sitting and starring at the fall foliage, watching the squirrels gather nuts while he hits golf balls. I started teaching him golf at two-years-old. Now at three, he can tee up the ball and knock it across the back fence. When he does, yells, “I knocked it to kingdom come.” I know no greater joy than observing the pride a small child enjoys when he accomplishes something new each day of his life, the spontaneity of sheer joy the child experiences with each thing he does that is a new experience. I feel so privileged to share some of these times with my grandchildren.

Is Majority Rule Moral? (Issue 106)

We are rapidly approaching Election Day, a time when another president will be elected to hold that office for four years. Along with the election, there are a number of other political candidates seeking an office of a seat of power.

So much is happening on a daily basis it’s hard to keep up with all of it. There is trouble in the housing market, high food prices, job losses, investments tanking, government taking over more and more, taxes eating into every phase of our lives and politicians barking promises they can’t keep. It seems we have more problems in this country than Dick Tracy.

Acorn Politicians Gone Nuts (Issue 104)

I listened to the second debate between presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama. In previous articles, I have mentioned how boring all the rhetoric is. This one went beyond that.

They babbled on and on ad nausea. Both went from the ridiculous to the sublime in stretching the truth, made promises they have no intention of keeping, waltzed around the podium fencing with the audience questions, fumbling and avoiding answering the questions asked. The moderator, Tom Brokaw, gave the worst performance I have heard from any moderator in any former debates.

Debates & Dear John Letter (Issue 88)

The debate last night in Oxford, Mississippi, between John McCain and Barack Obama, sounded more like a bickering session than a debate, a rehashing and squabbling over the same things we have been listening to for the past 18 months.

It was a repetition of the same abysmal mediocrity we have been hearing. McCain in his dull monotone voice, repeating the same ole rhetoric was very boring. Obama, more spiritedly energetic, kept rudely interrupting McCain and acted like he wanted to lunge at him, as Obama kept repeating the same old socialist line of taxing the rich to take care of the poor. I did not listen to entire program, but turned it off before they finished. I was so tired of listening to the same old stuff.
