Blogging By A 10-Year-Old (Issue 3)

My 10-year-old granddaughter spent the night with me yesterday. She has her own bedroom when she visits, filled with her things, like dolls, toys, books, a desk for studying, a TV, telephone, even a play kitchen area complete with a toy refrigerator, stove, table, dishes, stemware, napkins, among other things.

When my grandchildren visit, I’m always trying to think of something they might enjoy, as well as learn from. This morning, I started with the computer, and asked her if she would like to write a column for my blogging site. “Anything you feel like writing,” I said, “with no prompting from me; it can be about any subject.” Here’s what she wrote ver batim:

“Hi Folks, I would like to tell you a story about my grandaughter  , Isabella, she spends the nite a lot. She will watch television, play dress-up or call her friends over at my house…
She goes to Masters Academy of Fine Arts, which is a school for home-schoolers. She Takes Ballet, Jazz and Piano at the North-east Georgia School of Music and Dance. She loves to play basket-ball, and ride her bike and swim. She has a little brother named William and a little sister named Olivia,

They can be very sweet and very annoying. Well you know its JUST ME writing another story.  See Ya!!!”

What’s An Octogenarian? (Issue 2)

When my son suggested creating a blogging site called “octogenarian,” I was not familiar with “blogging” and unsure what the term octogenarian meant. If someone had asked me, I probably would have said it’s someone born in October, as opposed to a person in his or her eighties or an otherwise “old” person.

I had 4 grandparents who lived well past 80 years old and my mother in her nineties, but never heard them referred to as Octogenarians. And if I had called them that, they probably would think that’s cause to have my mouth washed out.

Bragging Rights Of A Grandparent

It seems to me that when I was younger, I gravitated toward people older than me because they seemed more interesting. Then as I got older, I gravitated more toward those younger than me because most of the older generations only wanted to talk about their grandchildren, doctor appointments and medicine they were taking, which bored me. And my eleventh commandment says, “don’t bore me.”

Now I like to talk about my grandchildren, which are anything but boring to me. And love having them around. Some have said the reason grandparents and grandchildren bond is because they have a common enemy. I don’t know about that.

Just over a year ago, I moved into a house with enough room to designate one room as their play room. I filled it with toys, books, two desks so they could do their homework, a TV, telephone, bed, toy stove and refrigerator, a table, play china, dolls, and a closet full of dress up clothes. My two granddaughters are 10 and 8, and my grandson is almost  3 years old.
