Having just completed a three part series about five years of life in Japan, I’m ready to return to writing about current events, politics and the economy.
All of my articles are sent to New York for posting, and I have a great editor there that manages to have them up on the internet in short order. I was amazed she posted the three-part series, rather lengthy writings, so quickly. Then sent me a copy of a press release about my blog site that will go out the main media shortly. My next blog is titled, “Time to Tally Up as Things Belly Up” and is about our current monetary crisis.
I think I have probably written about 75 articles in the past five months. The internet and blogging is so interesting to me. Six months ago, I don’t think I had ever heard the word “blog” and certainly had no idea what it meant. Just this past week, I watched a Martha Stewart show devoted entirely to bloggers and was absolutely amazed at how huge it is. Some of the guest bloggers on her show said they received millions of clicks per month to their sites. Now there are so many with blog sites, readership is quite competitive. I started mine about five months ago and am just beginning to receive more comments from readers. So far, the comments have been quite complimentary, and almost all say to “write more.”
When I began, I expected to receive comments of opposition to some of my ideas and thinking because of the controversial nature of some of my posts, which are not the usual run of opinion on current topics. Actually, I have looked forward to receiving some intellectual bantering on ideas. I will definitely publish when received. Ideas I express are not usually found in mainstream media.
Speaking of Martha Stewart, she is a lady I greatly admire. What a creative phoneme she is!!! She is a person who has been so inspirational to so many, including yours truly. I actually have a personal story about her.
About seven years ago, I decided to sell on eBay, and when I decided to do this, I had no computer. When I eventually purchased one, I did not even know how to turn it on. I had no idea what a mouse, keyboard, monitor and hard drive was. But I was determined and hired a lady to come in and spend a few days showing me the basics. It was very difficult and I struggled with it. I still do, and to this day, know very little about computers. Nevertheless, I signed on to eBay and started listing items, mostly books and magazines at first.
Very early into this venture, I listed some Martha Stewart magazines and a lady in California bid on and bought a Martha Stewart magazine for $112.00. I was amazed and flabbergasted. The magazine she purchased was the original premiere issue from the early nineties. But it was the sale of that magazine that motivated me to continue and I sold thousands of items over the next five years. I shipped all over the world and when I stopped, two years ago, had over two thousand feedbacks.
Some may remember, years back, the commercial about financial investments that said, “When Hutton talks, everybody listens.” Well, I can say that when Martha Stewart talks, I listen. And when I saw her TV program about blogging last week, I dropped everything, sat down and listened. It is the latest craze, and such a wonderful medium of expression. Now a days, everyone is so busy, in a hurry with a phone in their ear; it’s difficult to find anyone to listen. But blogging has provided an outlet of expression and a catharsis for many, which fills that void and frustration of the unavailability of finding someone to listen. Anyone can start his or her own blog site and write about just about anything, with a few restrictions about what one can say on the internet. But no matter what, they can voice their opinions and have it go around the world 24/7.
I, for one, having been born in the horse and buggy and model T Ford days, never cease to be amazed at the technology of communication. And the availability of it to anyone who chooses to use it. I’m so aware and appreciative of this fact. So much we have and enjoy is the result of living in this great country with individual freedom.
